History Of The World Hindi Day

World Hindi Day is celebrated to mark the importance of the Hindi Language. The date 10th January was chosen as it was the day on which Hindi was first spoken in the United Nations General Assembly in 1949.

The first World Hindi Conference was inaugurated on 10 January 1975 by the then Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi. However, the first World Hindi Day celebrations began in 2006 at the behest of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.

Significance

World Hindi Day is celebrated to mark the importance of the Hindi language and promote it as a global language worldwide. This day is also observed to spread awareness about the Hindi language.

Do you know that the Hindi language was made the official language of the Union of India in 1950 and is spoken by approximately 600 million people worldwide, making it one of the most widely spoken languages? According to Article 343 of the Indian Constitution, Hindi, written in the Devanagari script, is officially recognised as the official language of India.

Activities And Events

Many activities and events like workshops, seminars, Hindi competitions and cultural performances are conducted by the Indian Government, schools and organisations from abroad during this day. Many content creators on social media also promote this day by posting Hindi-centric content to pay respect to the language.

It is an excellent opportunity to learn Hindi and appreciate the beauty of the language.
