The Four R’s as per PM Modi

• Respond — the world needs to respond to the growing needs of the Global South.
• Recognise — countries should recognise the need for the principle of common but differentiated responsibility.
• Respect — every nation should respect international laws and pay heed to each other territorial integrity.
• Reform — it is essential to understand the need of the hour and take proactive steps towards reforming the international bodies, including the United Nations.

Prime Ministers of India and Thailand at the Summit

PM Modi remarked that the world is in a crisis and assured the developing nations that their voice is India’s priority. PM Modi said, “We, the Global South, have the largest stakes in the future. Most of the global challenges have not been created by the Global South. But they affect us more”.

At this two-day virtual summit, Thailand confirmed they are ready to forge a positive and robust relationship with India.

Thai PM Prayut Chan-o-cha stated, “Thailand stands ready to forge development partnerships with India as the current G20 Chair in safeguarding the common interests of the Global South inclusively so that we can deliver sustainable and resilient growth for our future generations”.

Conclusion

“Voice of Global South for Human-Centric Development” and “Unity of Voice, Unity of Purpose” are the inaugural and closing themes of the two-day summit held virtually between the 12th to 13th of January 2023.

The summit envisages bringing together the Global South nations to develop a common perspective for shared and sustainable development.

The forum gives a common platform to the developing countries to bring forward the range of issues that had marred their path towards economic, industrial and social growth and development.
