Thailand Travel Guide – Test and Go scheme has been suspended indefinitely. Additionally, the CCSA announced that January 15 will be the last day of pre-approved arrivals of the recently suspended Test and Go program.

The suspension of the program has had devastating impacts on the tourism sector. It results in an estimated loss due to the cancellation of the scheme is said to reach up to 7 billion baht. Many operators are proposing to enter the sandbox scheme as an alternative.

The government has approved the inclusion of 6 destinations into the sandbox program. Koh Samui, Koh Pangan, Koh Tao, Krabi, Phangnga, and Phuket were added. Additionally, Pattaya and Bangkok operators are also proposing to include both provinces in the sandbox. Operators argued that the recent order to work from home has canceled many events, meetings, and bookings in both provinces. Also, they have sighted Bangkok as the gateway to the country and must be included in the program.

January is among the high seasons for the tourism industry. This year’s season did not yield much profit for operators due to the surge in omicron cases in the country. The government is trying its best to balance public safety and tourism. They try their best to navigate through the challenges posed by the new variant.

All arrivals who were not approved for the sandbox scheme must undergo a quarantine period. After which they will be allowed to travel. The arrivals include all tourists and returnees from abroad.

Thailand Travel Guide – New updates regarding travel restrictions took effect on November 22, 2021 midnight. The Test and Go along with the sandbox program (except for Phuket Sandbox) were temporarily suspended as a precaution against the Omicron variant.

OMICRON – WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR

SARS-CoV-2 variant B.1.1.529 was first reported to the World Health Organization on November 24, 2021, from South Africa. The collection of the first specimen occurred on November 9, 2021. WHO announced it as a variant of concern and named as Omicron on November 26, 2021. Omicron has concerning multiple mutations that are currently being studied.

INTERNATIONAL RESPONSE

Many countries have issued travel restrictions, especially from South African countries. As of December 16, 2021, the variant has already spread to 54 countries. The United Kingdom and South Africa have reported the most cases. Countries are now updating their current travel restrictions to minimize the spread of the variant.

THAILAND TRAVEL GUIDE (UPDATE)

As of 00:00 of November 22, 202, Thailand has updated the travel restrictions.

Applicants who have registered, approved, and have received their QR code may enter Thailand.

Applicants who have registered but have not received their respective QR codes must wait for the approval of their Thailand Pass. Tourists must register and wait for approval before they enter the country.

New applicants may only apply for the Phuket Sandbox. Alternative Quarantine has replaced the Test and Go and other sandbox schemes.

Travelers who arrived under the Test and Go and Sandbox program must undergo a 2nd COVID-19 test (NOT ATK Self Test) at government-designated facilities with no additional cost.

International travelers from Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe are not allowed to enter Thailand. South African countries not listed above are required to undergo a 14-day mandatory quarantine. Tourist may book their stay at any certified quarantine hotels from Bangkok, Phuket, or Samui before being able to travel around Thailand.

Excerpts: Packing your bags for a trip is a daunting task, especially when you are visiting a new place. Hence, here are some important tips, when planning for a trip, to packing your bags for a Thailand trip during various seasons.

One of the main tasks that cause us panic while planning for a trip is to pack your bags. And, the panic raises even more when it is an international trip. If you are someone who is visiting Thailand for the 1st time, here is our guide to avoiding mistakes when visiting thailand for the 1st time. The reason being is that we do not want to miss out anything that we might require during the trip and forget to carry along. And, if we include everything that we might need during our trip, the bags become so heavy that it creates unnecessary chaos and becomes an obstacle to enjoyment of your trip.

Hence, you must be cautious about the stuff you want to carry on your trip and if it is a place that you have never been before, you must be extra careful about your luggage. So, to help you out with planning your trip to Thailand better, we would like to give you some tips to packing your bags for a Thailand trip.

Packing tips for a trip to Thailand

Pack Light for a Thailand Trip

The first and foremost thing that you must do when planning for a trip to Thailand while packing your bags for a Thailand trip is to follow the thumb rule of half packed bags. Initially, pack everything that you think you would require for the trip. And, then remove half of the stuff that you have packed. This way, you would be cutting half of the unnecessary stuff that you can manage without during your trip. Once done, follow the next tips to packing your bags for a Thailand trip.

Pack Based on the Season in Which You Are Visiting Thailand

You might be thinking that this is a no brainer! You always pack your bags for a trip based on the season you are visiting any place, right? However, there is a catch! Are you aware of the range of the temperature in Thailand every season? If not, let us help you with the frequency of temperature and what types of cloths are appropriate for each season. If you’re on a tight budget, fret not! Here are some places in Thailand to visit which are inexpensive and enjoyable!

Packing Your Bags for Rainy Season in Thailand

The rainy season in Thailand occurs between the months of July and October in Thailand. So, if you are planning to visit Thailand during these months, we have a few tips to packing your bags for a Thailand trip. The first thing that you need is the umbrella – an obvious decision, right? Well, another important thing that you must pack in your bag during the rainy season in Thailand is to have a light rain jacket or a poncho. This will avoid the chances of getting wet in rain. Other than that, you can carry your regular clothes and stuff while visiting Thailand in rainy season. Do remember that the beautiful beaches, landscapes, seas, wildlife sanctuaries, waterfalls and other places seem more attractive in Thailand during the rainy season. Hence, you would not want to miss the splendour and majesty of Thailand because of the fear of getting caught out in rain.

Packing Your Bags for Cool and Dry Season in Thailand

The cool and dry season in Thailand occurs between the months of November and February in Thailand. This is the time when Thailand gets a large number of tourists from across the world. Even in the cool and dry season in Thailand, you can carry a couple of shorts and tank top. The reason being is that the temperature in Thailand during these months ranges somewhere between 28°C to 34°C. Being an Indian, especially if you live in the cooler places in India, you would not get chills in this range of temperature.

Besides, among all the tips to packing your bags for a Thailand trip, there is another thing that you must be cautious about during your trip to Thailand. The local Thai people usually cover their knees and shoulders no matter how much heat there is. Though as a tourist, you do not have to do this. However, if you are visiting some religious places like temples in Thailand, you must abide by the rules.

Packing Your Bags for Hot Season in Thailand

The hot season in Thailand occurs between the months of March and June in Thailand. These are the months where you will find Thailand to be a scorching place to be in. So, this is the time when most of the tourists avoid visiting Thailand. However, this is also the time when Thailand celebrates most of their festivals including Songkran. This is the Thai festival which is celebrated with splashing water on one another. The festival is celebrated on the 13th day of April and lasts for 2 to 3 days. So, if you are visiting during these days, you must carry your stuff accordingly.

And, if your trip to Thailand does not clash with these dates, you should pack your bags for the high temperature. One of the important tips to packing your bags for a Thailand trip that we would like to convey to you is that you should include breathable clothing while visiting Thailand during hot season.

These are some of the important tips to packing your bags for a Thailand trip depending on the season you are visiting the country. However, some common tips to packing your bags for vising any country or place include:

Pack Light

You must not include anything and everything while being on a trip. The less luggage you carry, the more you will be able to enjoy the trip. Many traveller make this mistake of over packing for their trips. Some travellers assume that Thailand is comparatively a small country and might not have loads of markets and shopping malls. On the contrary, Thailand is a country that has a wide range of local markets and shopping malls where you can get any stuff of your choice during your trip.

Dress Code

Thailand is quite strict about the clothing style and fashion sense, especially when you are visiting a bar or a temple. You will not be allowed to enter in the temples or the bars if anything you are wearing is not considered elegant in the country. Hence, you must be aware of the fashion sense and the dress code of the places in Thailand you are planning to visit. Along with the clothing and outfit, you must be very cautious about the stock of your medicines. Though there are various hospitals and medical health care centres in Thailand; however, it is always good to carry your prescribed medicines while having a trip to Thailand or any other place.
