The European Medicines Agency (EU) has approved the Pfizer company’s anti-Covid-19 vaccine for children aged 5 to 11 years. With this, the way has been cleared for the Covid vaccination of millions of school children amid the increase in new cases of corona virus in Europe.
The European Union, consisting of 27 countries, has already approved the vaccine for use in people 12 years of age and older. Prior to this, Pfizer Company has so far been approved to vaccinate children between the ages of 5 and 11 in the United States of America, Israel and Canada.
According to the EMA, children between the ages of 5 and 11 will be given two injections spaced three weeks apart with a third of the dose. This is the first time that the EMA has approved a Covid vaccine for the vaccination of children. In the vaccine trial, in a study conducted on about 2,000 children aged 5 to 11 years, this vaccine was 90.7 percent effective. At the same time, the side effects after vaccination include pain in the injection site, fatigue, headache, muscle pain and chills.
Authorities in the Netherlands said earlier this week that the biggest increase in cases was among children up to the age of 12. The regulator has so far approved four vaccines for use in the European Union.
