The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has taken another step towards building a liberal image. Foreign films in the country will now be released in theaters without any cuts ie censorship. The media regulatory authority of the country has taken this decision and implemented it. Now the government will create a new category for people above 21 years of age. The government feels that foreign tourists will be wooed due to the new no-censorship policy.
Till now the foreign films which were shown in the theaters of UAE were censored. A committee used to look after the content of the film. Content or pictures that are against Islamic values were removed. Gay, sex or pornographic content was removed. Now that won’t happen. Now these films can be shown in theaters without any cuts.
This move of the UAE government will benefit those foreigners who are in large numbers in this country. Foreign tourists also come in large numbers to the UAE. It has always been a challenge for the government of the country to strike a balance between traditional values and foreign culture. A major reason for this is the Islamic tradition in the country.
The UAE has taken several such steps in recent years to attract foreign tourists and investors. For this some changes have also been made in the Islamic Legal Code. Recently, a work period of four and a half days in a week has been fixed here. This will be implemented from 1 January 2022. Work will be done from Monday to Friday afternoon. Only half day work will be done on Friday. Work from home facility will be provided in this. Saturday and Sunday will be a holiday. The government says that the advantage of this step will be that better coordination with the markets of western countries.
