Coronation Day – A Special Holiday in Thailand

It is a special holiday in Thailand that marks the coronation of the current king of Thailand, His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua, the tenth monarch of the Royal House of Chakri (also known as King Rama X), which took place on May 4, 2019.

He ascended the throne at age 64 upon the death of his father, Bhumibol Adulyadej, who passed away on October 13, 2016. The coronation was held three years after he acceded to the throne. The ceremony took place after an appropriate length of time had passed since the death and funeral of Bhumibol Adulyadej.

The Elaborate Affair of Coronation Ceremony

The coronation ceremony was a grand and elaborate affair steeped in tradition and symbolism. Held over three days, it included a series of rituals and ceremonies that culminated in the king being officially crowned and presented to the people of Thailand. Sankhya, Nyaya, Vaisheshika, Mimansa, Vedanta, and Yoga are among the six schools of Hindu philosophy. The three Pramanas (means of knowledge) that Yoga, like the Sakhya school, is based on are: Pratyaka (perception), Anumana (inference), and Sabda (word/testimony of reputable sources). 

The Rig Veda and the Upanishads both reference yoga practice, while Patanjali’s Yogasutra is regarded as the primary source of traditional yoga philosophy.

Yoga in modern times has come to be associated with breathing exercises or stretching, but it is a lot more than that. It is a way of attaining knowledge – metaphysical knowledge beyond human sensory perception. Yoga or meditation is a part of the Alaukika (extraordinary) mode of attaining knowledge. The extraordinary knowledge that the human mind seeks cannot be attained through our ordinary sensory cognition but can only be perceived through awakening our inner self through yoga. 

The aim of Yoga is spiritual emancipation. Yoga hypothesizes that when the spirit (Purusha) is released from the shackles of matter (Prakriti), which are the results of ignorance and illusion, spiritual emancipation (moksha) is attained. Yoga creates a bond between the Pramata (the knower) and Pramati (the knowledge gained).

So, Yoga is much more than a mere form of exercise. It is one of India’s foremost soft powers that has impacted the lifestyle of people across the world and led the charge of India’s cultural percolation. India has orchestrated the world’s physical and, most importantly, spiritual well-being through Yoga.

IGABPPS, Omkoi was initially established with the donation by HRH Princess Mahachakri Sirindhorn of the prize money of Indira Gandhi International Peace Prize bestowed on her in 2005. The School plays a very important role in not only imparting education to students from marginalized and ethnic minority communities in the hill areas but also imparts vocational education, skill development and acts as a community health centre. The Embassy of India in Bangkok as well as the Indian community in Chiang Mai province have been assisting the School in the last 15 years.

In her remarks, the Ambassador stated that she was happy to present furniture items worth USD $ 4300 to the School as a gesture of goodwill and a deep sense of commitment to work closely with Thailand and have deeper ties and connection with Thai people. The improved facilities at the school will help in enhancing the learning experience for students living in remote border areas.

The gifting of furniture to IGABPPS Omkoi also coincides with the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of India-Thailand diplomatic relations.

Ambassador Suchitra also visited Chamson bridge over the Ping river constructed originally by a prominent member of the Indian community Mr. Motiram Korana in 1966 and met with Indians and Thai scholars and Indian community leaders.

Sanon Wangsrangboon, deputy governor of Bangkok, says the festival is aimed at supporting Thai people of Indian descent. Moreover, it encourages Indian tourists to travel to Thailand by learning about the culture of Thai people of Indian descent.

The Thai capital only celebrates Chinese New Year, Songkran, and Christmas, he explained. No Indian festivals have ever been observed in Thailand, he said.

It is the perfect time to celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and India by holding the Diwali festival this year. Phahurad, also called Little India, will be promoted as one of Bangkok’s prominent landmarks.

In particular, Lakshmi, the Hindu goddess of prosperity, is associated with the festival. This festival is popular among Hindus, Jains, and Buddhists. According to Hindu lunisolar calendars, the festival usually lasts five days between mid-October and mid-November.

Apart from Sabarmati, corona infection has also been found in samples taken from Kankaria, Chandola lake, other water sources of Ahmedabad. It is also being said that researchers have also found a sample infected from Bharu river flowing in Guwahati, Assam.

Scientists are also surprised by the confirmation of corona in all samples of Sabarmati river. In fact, eight institutions of the country, including IIT Gandhi Nagar, have done research regarding corona infection in the water of rivers. Manish Kumar of the Department of Earth Sciences of the Indian Institute of Technology in the capital Gandhinagar has informed that till now only the survival of the corona was confirmed in the sewage line, but now the virus has also been detected in the river.

Manish Kumar has told that 694 samples were taken from Sabarmati river, 549 from Kankaria pond and 402 from Chandola pond. After getting the virus, researchers believe that all the natural water sources of the country should be investigated, because many serious mutations of the virus have been seen in the second wave.
