IITAAT appointed Subin Bhatia as the new President, with Manish Ranjan as Secretary and Mukul Koche as Treasurer. The newly elected committee is poised to drive innovation and growth for the association.

Subin Bhatia, the Newly Elected President of IITAAT

Subin Bhatia brings over 25 years of extensive experience in the Information & Communication Technology (ICT) and digital industry. He has maintained an impressive track record of success.

Founder of Suvitech Company, pioneering role in the MVNE (Mobile Virtual Network Enabler) platform business in Thailand, prestigious Asia Pacific Outstanding Entrepreneurship Award, and the list of his remarkable achievements goes on.

When asked about his recent appointment as President of IITAT, Bhatia expressed enthusiasm and added, “I am deeply honoured to be elected as the President of IITAAT, and I am excited to lead this association of esteemed IIT alumni in Thailand.

We have a tremendous opportunity to promote India-Thailand cooperation in various fields and promote the Brand IIT in Thailand and Southeast Asia. With the support of my fellow ExCom members, we will work to the best of our abilities to contribute to the success of IITAAT’s mission.”

Vision and Mission of IITAAT

Established in 1990, the IITAAT serves as a dynamic platform for IIT alumni in Thailand. It facilitated the establishment of the brand IIT in Thailand and across Southeast Asia.

The association promotes cooperation between India and Thailand in technology, education, and management. Through its diverse programs and events, the IITAAT provides opportunities for industry interaction, networking, knowledge-sharing, charitable and social initiatives, family events, and sporting activities.

IITAT offers a range of events focused on technology and education promotion. The institute also helps to build a vibrant and connected community of IIT alumni in Thailand.

Achievements of IITAAT

IITAAT has accomplished several noteworthy milestone, including:

• Collaborating with RMUTT to establish the Engineering Student Talent Award (ESTA) program. RMUTT draws participants from Thailand and other ASEAN countries. It receives immense support from the Indian Embassy, sponsors, and IIT alumni
• Facilitating Thai University tie-ups with IIT, such as IIT Madras with RMUTT and IIT Gandhinagar with SWU
• Contributing to charity and social welfare initiatives, including supporting the Orphanage Ban Kru Noi. The institute also constructed an old age home for women, donated oxygen generators to India during the COVID-19 pandemic, and supported the Shanti Bhumi Foundation.

Through these achievements, IITAAT has demonstrated its commitment to promoting education, technology, and social welfare within Thailand and beyond.

The invitation was extended to India’s new ambassador to Thailand, Nagesh Singh, during his courtesy visit to Government House on Monday, where he met with Gen Prayut, said Mr Anucha.

Nagesh Singh said that the ties between India and Thailand would improve more during his tenure. He said Thailand is important to India because of shared cultural, religious, and language relations.

The number of Indian visitors to Thailand last year was around 1 Million, and the Indian ambassador is hoping that this number will increase even to two million this year. “Trade between Thailand and India has been on the rise since 2021, with a significant increase observed between January and November last year, resulting in a 20% boost in trade volume to approximately USD 6.5 billion (THB 552.6 billion).”

Gen Prayut and Nagesh Singh discussed strengthening connectivity between Southeast Asia and other regions and public health and national security cooperation.

• In 2021, Thailand’s travel and tourism sector contributed about $80.5 billion to the country’s GDP.

• The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) expected around 3.14 million domestic traffic during the New Year holidays, generating about 11.2 billion Baht in tourism revenue.
• Over 5,000 tourists daily flooded Phi Phi Islands National Park in Krabi province on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
• Krabi, the famous coastal town of Thailand, received around 62,927 tourists, including 39,331 foreigners and 23,596 Thai citizens, from 30th December to 2nd January.

Tourism is all set to picking up pace in Thailand with an exponential increase in visitors flocking to the Land of Smiles. Thai officials are hopeful and expect $64.5 billion in revenue from tourism in 2023.

The name is made up of so many words
Even though we think Kangchenjunga as a name, but it is made up of four words. In this, Kang means snow, Chen means big, Ijo means treasure body means five. This is a Tibetan word and it means five treasures buried in the snow. It is believed that every treasure is kept at the door of God.

No one goes to the top
Joe Brown and George Band. Both of them were such men who climbed Kangchenjunga on 25 May 1955. Both of them had promised the local residents that they would not climb the top of the mountain. It is believed that the Gods reside on the top of Kangchenjunga. That’s why nobody goes there.

It is said that till date no climber has been able to stand on its peak. However, 200 climbers tried to get too close to it, some of whom were killed in the same attempt. That’s why one stops only a few feet away from the Kangchenjunga peak.

People disappear
It is said that many people have also disappeared here. A Tibetan monk named Tulshuk Lingpa along with 12 of his companions set out on this peak in search of a new path. He is going on reciting the mantra aloud. People believe that after this he disappeared somewhere. At the same time, some people say that he became a victim of an avalanche.

Dead bodies not found
It is also said that the bodies of those who died on Kangchenjunga till date have not been found. In 1992, a Polish mountaineer Wand tried to climb Kangchenjunga. She wanted to be the first woman to climb all the 14 peaks of the Himalayas, but she suddenly disappeared and her body was not found till date.
