270 Indian Nationals Repatriated from Mae Sot, Thailand

The Embassy of India in Bangkok and the Consulate of India in Chiang Mai, in close coordination with various agencies of the Royal Thai Government, have successfully facilitated the repatriation of 270 Indian nationals, including 26 women, from Mae Sot, Thailand to India. The operation was carried out through two special Indian Air Force (IAF) flights.

According to official sources, these Indian nationals had recently crossed into Thailand from Myawaddy, Myanmar, where they were allegedly working in cyber scam centers. They were later detained by Thai authorities for violating immigration laws after entering the country illegally.

Both Indian Embassies in Thailand and Myanmar are actively coordinating with local governments to secure the repatriation of more Indian citizens still stranded in Myanmar, believed to be linked to similar online scam operations.

In a statement on Facebook, the Indian Embassy urged citizens to exercise caution when accepting job offers abroad. Indian nationals are advised to verify the credentials of employers and recruitment agents before traveling overseas. The Embassy further emphasized that visa-free entry to Thailand is strictly for tourism and short business purposes, and should not be misused for employment or other unauthorized activities.

This large-scale repatriation underscores the ongoing efforts by Indian authorities to protect citizens from human trafficking and fraudulent job rackets.
