The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has joined hands with the Embassy of Peru in Thailand to unveil a striking new mural, “Peru and Thailand United by Art,” in celebration of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Peru.

The mural, located along Siripong Road in Phra Nakhon District, was officially launched by Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt and H.E. Ms. Cecilia Zunilda Galarreta Bazán, Ambassador of the Republic of Peru to Thailand. The event continued at the Rattanakosin Room, Bangkok City Hall, where both sides highlighted the shared vision of cultural collaboration and friendship.

Created by renowned Peruvian graffiti artist Diego Cornejo, better known as Seimiek, the mural bursts with vivid colors and symbolism inspired by both nations. The artwork features a llama (Peru’s iconic animal), an elephant (Thailand’s symbol of strength and grace), and a cat representing shared cultural legends. The sun, central to both Thai and Inca traditions, shines as a symbol of life, enlightenment, and renewal. Surrounded by flowers and mountains, the mural beautifully captures the harmony between two continents and their people.

Governor Chadchart described the mural as “a powerful symbol of how art connects hearts and deepens understanding between cultures.” He also praised the Embassy of Peru for its continuous cooperation with Bangkok on cultural initiatives—ranging from the “Bangkok We Are OK” concert at Lumphini Park to the installation of the “Torito de Pucará” sculptures earlier this year.
Ambassador Galarreta Bazán added that this mural marks the completion of the “Torito de Pucará: Peru and Thailand United by Art” project, which brought together artists and communities to celebrate 60 years of diplomatic ties. “The ‘Torito’ represents luck, protection, and prosperity—values that resonate deeply with Thai beliefs,” she said.
To set the mood, the Bangkok Metropolitan Orchestra (BMO) performed a blend of Peruvian songs and royal compositions by King Rama IX, filling the air with warmth and artistic unity.
The unveiling ceremony was attended by senior Bangkok officials, foreign ambassadors, and art enthusiasts, all sharing in the joyful spirit of creativity and collaboration.
With this mural, Bangkok not only celebrates a six-decade friendship—it also reinforces the city’s growing reputation as a global canvas for cultural expression and artistic exchange.
