Bangkok, Thailand – Bangkok is taking a big step toward greener urban transport with the launch of Thailand’s first electric taxi boats (EV taxi boats). Developed locally using recycled materials and powered by 100% clean energy, the new service is set to officially begin this September, offering both residents and visitors a sustainable way to explore the city’s historic canals.

Sustainable Water Transport for Bangkok
The project is led by Thoresen Thai Agencies (TTA) through its marine arm, TTA Mariner. Each boat runs entirely on clean energy, making them the country’s first eco-friendly taxi boats designed to reduce emissions and traffic congestion while reviving Bangkok’s once-bustling waterways.

Pilot Routes and Stops
Two EV boats will operate during the pilot phase, each carrying up to eight passengers at a cruising speed of 12 km/h. The first routes will connect key landmarks and local neighborhoods, including:
-
Hua Lamphong Pier to Thewarat Market Pier via Khlong Phadung Krung Kasem
-
The return route through Khlong Bang Lamphu, ending at Pipit Banglamphu Museum Pier
Along the way, passengers will pass by Khao San Road, Bang Lamphu, Bo Be Market, Nang Loeng Market, Phra Sumen Fort, and Mahakan Fort—offering both convenience and a unique travel experience.
From the third month onward, the service will expand to cover Khlong Ong Ang and Khlong Saen Saep, linking highlights such as Khlong Ong Ang Walking Street, Siam Paragon, and CentralWorld.

How to Book an EV Taxi Boat
The boats operate like ride-hailing taxis via a booking app, with fares starting from 60 baht per person. Passengers can also charter the boats for small group trips. Operating hours are currently set from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with potential for extension in the future.
Bangkok has long been known as the “Venice of the East,” but canal transport has declined over the years. The introduction of EV taxi boats not only offers a new way to beat the city’s traffic but also highlights Thailand’s push for sustainable tourism and eco-friendly urban mobility.
As Bangkok prepares to welcome millions of tourists in the coming years, these EV taxi boats could become a signature attraction—blending clean technology, convenience, and a chance to rediscover the city’s waterways.
