Indian Classical Dance and Cultural Showcase Take Center Stage at IYF Global Camp 2026 in Ayutthaya

Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Thailand – Indian culture took the spotlight at the IYF Global Camp 2026, as the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre (SVCC), Embassy of India, Bangkok, partnered with the International Youth Fellowship (IYF) to present an immersive workshop on Indian Classical Dance – Bharatnatyam alongside a vibrant “India Booth” cultural showcase.

Held at the AEC Trade Center, the programme formed part of the academy activities of the IYF Global Camp 2026 in Thailand and attracted enthusiastic participation from international youth delegates.

Bharatnatyam Workshop Brings India’s Classical Heritage to Life

The highlight of the event was a dynamic workshop-cum-lecture demonstration on Bharatnatyam, one of India’s most revered classical dance traditions. The session was conducted by ICCR Scholar and accomplished Bharatnatyam exponent Ms. Awassada Klinsukhon.

Through graceful live demonstrations, she introduced participants to the foundations of Bharatnatyam — including intricate hand gestures (mudras), expressive facial storytelling (abhinaya), rhythmic footwork, and precise coordination with classical Carnatic music.

The interactive format allowed youth participants to actively engage in the practical segments, experiencing firsthand the discipline, artistry, and storytelling depth embedded in Indian classical dance.

The workshop not only showcased artistic excellence but also strengthened cross-cultural understanding, offering meaningful exposure to India’s rich performing arts traditions.

“India Booth” Showcases Fashion, Art and Tradition

Complementing the dance workshop, SVCC also extended active support in setting up the “India Booth” from 26–27 February 2026 at the same venue.

The booth quickly emerged as one of the camp’s most vibrant and engaging spaces. Among its major attractions was the traditional Henna (Mehndi) art corner, where participants eagerly adorned their hands with intricate Indian designs.

Another creative highlight featured bookmark-making sessions inspired by Mandala art, allowing students to explore symbolic Indian patterns through hands-on activities.

Visitors also explored a colorful display of traditional Indian attire, including Kurta-Pajama, Sherwani, and Saree ensembles paired with artificial jewelry. Students were invited to try on selected outfits and capture photos, transforming the booth into an interactive cultural experience. The display emphasized the elegance, diversity, and regional richness of Indian textiles and fashion traditions.

Youth Engagement and Cultural Exchange

Through these thoughtfully curated activities, the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre reaffirmed its commitment to promoting India’s cultural heritage in Thailand. The enthusiastic participation at the IYF Global Camp 2026 reflects a growing interest among youth in Indian arts, fashion, and traditions.

By combining classical dance education with interactive cultural showcases, the event stood as a testament to the power of cultural diplomacy in strengthening people-to-people connections between India and Thailand.
