BANGKOK, Thailand – A major emergency unfolded this morning in Bangkok’s Dusit district after a massive sinkhole suddenly opened early this morning on Samsen Road, directly in front of Wachiraphayaban Hospital.

07:13 AM – The enormous sinkhole, estimated to be around 50 meters deep, was first reported. The collapse quickly began expanding toward the hospital entrance and the nearby Samsen Police Station. No injuries were initially reported.

07:24 AM – As the hole widened, authorities urgently began evacuating patients, hospital staff, and local residents from surrounding buildings.

07:45 AM – The situation escalated further when two electric poles and a tow truck belonging to the Samsen Police Station were swallowed by the sinkhole. Officials from the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) rushed to the scene to secure the area and prevent additional hazards.

07:50 AM – An urgent evacuation notice was issued to residents of a nearby apartment complex as the sinkhole continued to expand dangerously.
Governor Chatchart Joins On-Site Inspection
At 08:30 AM, Bangkok Governor Chatchart Sittipunt personally arrived at the scene with Deputy Governors Wisanu Subsompon and Narong Ruangsri, along with senior city officials and hospital executives. Representatives from the Samsen Police Station, Metropolitan Waterworks Authority, Metropolitan Electricity Authority (Samsen branch), and MRT Purple Line contractors also joined the inspection.
The Governor ordered an urgent assessment and rapid response to stabilize the situation, assist affected residents, and prevent further damage to critical infrastructure.

Authorities have now closed traffic between Wachiraphayaban Intersection and Sanghi Intersection, as well as surrounding areas of Dusit. The collapse has already impacted nearby utilities and is considered a serious risk to pedestrians and commuters.
