Bangkok Governor Oversees Restoration Efforts with French Embassy Support
Bangkok, Thailand – The iconic mural on Charoen Krung Soi 30 has been fully restored following a recent act of vandalism that damaged part of the artwork. The mural, a highlight of the “Krung Thep Creative Streets” project, was repaired with the cooperation of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), the French Embassy in Thailand, and a team of international artists.
Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt and Deputy Governor Sanon Wangsrangboon visited the site along with Pornphan Wattanasin, Director of Bang Rak District, to oversee the restoration and ensure a safe working environment for the artists. District officers set up ladders, safety barriers, and lighting throughout the work area to support the repair process.
The Ambassador of France to Thailand, officials from the Bang Rak Metropolitan Police Station, and representatives from related agencies also joined the visit to show their support for the restoration effort.
The mural at Charoen Krung Soi 30 is part of Krung Thep Creative Streets, a collaborative project between the French Embassy and several European embassies. The initiative features 15 international artists creating vibrant murals across 15 locations in Bangkok, turning the city’s streets into open-air art galleries that celebrate creativity and cultural exchange.
After the artwork was vandalized on September 27, the French Embassy worked closely with the original artists and their team to restore the mural to its original beauty.
Authorities are urging the public to help protect public art and urban spaces. Graffiti or vandalism on walls, doors, or public property is a criminal offense, punishable by up to 3 years in prison, a fine of up to 60,000 baht, or both.
Members of the public who witness acts of vandalism can report incidents via LINE @TraffyFondue or at their nearest Metropolitan Police Station.
