Thai–Cambodian Border Clashes, Travel and Drone Updates for Visitors

According to the Royal Thai Army, multiple confrontations have occurred in Kantharalak District, Sisaket Province, and Nam Yuen District, Ubon Ratchathani Province. The incidents began early on December 7, 2025, and continued into December 8, with Thai forces responding under established rules of engagement.

Safety Measures, Civilian Support, and Casualties
Major General Winthai Suvaree, Army spokesperson, reported that Cambodian troops opened fire with small arms and indirect weapons early on December 8 in the Chong An Ma and Chong Bok areas. The Thai military responded with defensive fire and has deployed aircraft to suppress ongoing attacks.

At around 07:00 a.m. in the Chong Bok area, one Thai soldier was killed and four others were wounded during the clashes. Civilians in affected border regions are being assisted with evacuation by the Suranaree and Burapha Task Forces, according to official statements.

Drone Regulations for Travelers and Operators
The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) has issued updated drone regulations amid the border situation. While the number of fully restricted airport zones has been narrowed to six—Korat, Watthana Nakhon, Takhli, Surat Thani, Ubon Ratchathani, and Surin Pakdi airports—several districts across seven provinces remain no-fly zones.

Affected provinces and districts include:

  • Sa Kaeo –Khlong Hat, Aranyaprathet, Khok Sung, Ta Phraya

  • Buri Ram – Lahan Sai, Ban Kruat

  • Si Sa Ket – Phu Sing, Khun Han, Kantharalak

  • Surin – Phanom Dong Rak, Kap Choeng, Sangkha, Buachet

  • Ubon Ratchathani – Khemarat, Na Tan, Pho Sai, Si Mueang Mai, Khong Chiam, Sirindhorn, Buntharik, Na Chaluai, Nam Yuen

  • Trat – Mueang Trat, Bo Rai, Khlong Yai

  • Chanthaburi – Mueang Chanthaburi, Pong Nam Ron, Soi Dao

Drone flights are permitted outside restricted zones between 06:00–18:00 hrs, with operations after 18:00 allowed only after prior CAAT approval. Operators must be registered, request permission at least three days in advance, and follow strict altitude and notification requirements.

Airport Operations and Travel Advice
For travelers, Buri Ram Airport remains fully operational as of the morning of December 8, 2025. Authorities continue to monitor border developments closely to ensure passenger safety. Travelers are advised to check for real-time updates from local authorities, avoid border areas experiencing clashes, and comply with drone and aviation restrictions.
