Thailand and India Forge New Pathways in Health and Wellness Collaboration

Bangkok, July 30, 2025 – Thailand and India have unveiled a groundbreaking partnership to advance health and wellness initiatives, emphasizing public health innovation, traditional medicine integration, and enhanced vaccine security. This collaboration, announced today, introduces novel programs distinct from previous efforts, aiming to address contemporary health challenges in the Southeast Asia region.

Pioneering Public Health Initiatives

The two nations have launched the Southeast Asia Wellness Network (SAWN), a collaborative platform to tackle non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes and hypertension, which are on the rise in both countries. Unlike prior efforts, SAWN focuses on community-driven health campaigns, leveraging mobile health units equipped with AI-driven diagnostic tools to reach remote areas. These units, a first in the region, will provide free screenings and health education, integrating data analytics to predict and prevent disease outbreaks.

Advancing Traditional Medicine

Building on their shared heritage of traditional healing practices, Thailand and India are establishing the Center for Integrative Healing (CIH) in Chiang Mai, Thailand. This center will serve as a hub for research and training in Ayurveda and Thai traditional medicine, focusing on developing evidence-based protocols for conditions like chronic pain and stress-related disorders. Unlike earlier academic collaborations, the CIH will prioritize the standardization of herbal formulations, ensuring quality and safety for global markets. A pilot program will train 500 practitioners from both nations by 2027, fostering cross-cultural expertise.

Strengthening Vaccine Security

In response to global health uncertainties, Thailand and India have initiated the Regional Vaccine Resilience Alliance (RVRA), a strategic effort to bolster vaccine production and distribution. This program diverges from past collaborations by focusing on mRNA and next-generation vaccine technologies tailored for emerging infectious diseases. The RVRA includes a joint research facility in Hyderabad, India, set to open in 2026, which will develop affordable vaccines for diseases like dengue and Nipah virus. Additionally, a digital supply chain platform will ensure real-time tracking of vaccine stocks, addressing shortages proactively.

A Vision for Regional Health Leadership

This collaboration positions Thailand and India as leaders in regional health security. By combining Thailand’s robust public health infrastructure with India’s pharmaceutical expertise, the partnership aims to set a global standard for integrative health systems. “This is a bold step toward a healthier, more resilient future for our people and the region,” said Dr. Anong Rattanaporn, Thailand’s Minister of Public Health, during the announcement.

The initiatives are supported by a $50 million joint investment, with plans to expand collaboration to include mental health programs and climate-resilient health strategies by 2028. This partnership not only strengthens bilateral ties but also sets a precedent for innovative health cooperation in the Global South.
