Bangkok, Thailand — On 6 January 2026, H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Thailand’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with H.E. Mr. Mark Gooding, Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Thailand, for a high-level discussion aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation and addressing regional and global developments.
Both sides welcomed the close and longstanding relationship between Thailand and the United Kingdom, highlighting a series of activities held throughout 2025 to commemorate the 170th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The milestone reflects more than a century and a half of cooperation across diplomacy, trade, education, and cultural exchange.
Commitment to Peace and Regional Stability
During the meeting, the Foreign Minister briefed the UK Ambassador on the latest developments regarding the Thailand–Cambodia border situation, reaffirming Thailand’s intention to work toward a sustainable ceasefire. The UK side welcomed the ceasefire agreement and expressed its support for ongoing peace and stability efforts in the region.
The discussion also touched on practical cooperation in addressing emerging security challenges, with the United Kingdom indicating its readiness to support Thailand in several areas, particularly in combating online scams and transnational cybercrime.
Exchange on Global Affairs
In addition to bilateral issues, both sides exchanged views on a range of regional and international developments, including the upcoming elections in Myanmar, the political situation in Venezuela, and the ongoing Russia–Ukraine conflict. The discussions reflected shared concerns over global stability and the importance of dialogue, cooperation, and respect for international norms.
