Thailand Receives Global Support as Southern Flood Relief Efforts Intensify

Bangkok, Thailand — Thailand’s southern provinces continue to receive strong domestic and international support as the government accelerates relief and recovery efforts following catastrophic flooding that has disrupted communities, tourism, and regional travel.

His Majesty the King Extends Personal Support

His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn has provided direct financial assistance to families who lost loved ones in the floods, granting 20,000 baht per victim. The Royal Household also confirmed that all fatalities remain under Royal Patronage, ensuring full funeral arrangements and long-term support for affected families.

In addition, His Majesty has contributed 100 million baht to Hat Yai Hospital to help replace equipment heavily damaged by floodwaters. Search-and-rescue operations have also been strengthened through royal funding for drones and emergency tools deployed across the hardest-hit districts.

Government Races to Stabilize Key Southern Hub

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, chairing an emergency economic meeting, emphasized the urgency of restoring Songkhla and Hat Yai—two crucial economic engines of the South. He acknowledged widespread financial losses and confirmed that certain SEA Games activities scheduled in Songkhla have been cancelled as a result of the disaster.

Civil authorities and military units, including two Deputy Prime Ministers assigned on-ground, continue coordinated cleanup missions to help residents return to their homes as quickly as possible.

China Extends Solidarity With Major Donation

Thailand has also welcomed significant assistance from abroad. China has contributed over 30 million baht in humanitarian support, with Chinese Ambassador Zhang Jianwei personally delivering the donation to the Prime Minister in Bangkok.

The Ambassador described the gesture as a reflection of the “family-like friendship” shared between the two nations. Prime Minister Anutin thanked China for its timely help, noting that such solidarity underscores the depth of the bilateral relationship.

Japan Sends Emergency Supplies Through JICA

Japan has similarly stepped forward with an emergency package valued at approximately 7.1 million baht, delivered via the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Supplies include hundreds of tents, thousands of blankets and sleeping pads, and essential water purification units to support communities facing severe shortages of clean water.

During his meeting with Japanese Ambassador Otaka Masato, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude for Japan’s unwavering support, noting the long-standing trust and cooperation between the two countries.

Foreign Tourists Safely Assisted

With Hat Yai being a major cross-border tourism hub, the flooding left more than 4,200 Malaysian and Singaporean travelers temporarily stranded. Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow confirmed that all affected tourists are safe, with many already transported home.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has activated a dedicated coordination center to assist foreign nationals and manage international aid, in partnership with the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance (AHA Centre).

Global Sympathy Highlights Shared Regional Burden

International messages of sympathy continue to pour in, including a heartfelt statement from King Charles III, who expressed sorrow for the loss of life and widespread destruction across South and Southeast Asia.

His message honored emergency workers on the ground and emphasized the urgent global need to “restore the balance and harmony of nature” as climate-related disasters intensify.
