Bangkok, Thailand – VietJet Thailand, in partnership with PTT Oil and Retail Business (PTT OR), has officially launched the inaugural “Green Route” flight between Bangkok and Phu Quoc, marking the country’s first low-cost carrier service on this route powered by sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The initiative highlights Thailand’s commitment to greener travel and the aviation industry’s shift toward low-carbon operations across ASEAN.

The Bangkok–Phu Quoc service, which took off from Suvarnabhumi Airport on 6 November 2025, follows VietJet’s earlier Green Route debut to Da Nang in 2024. The SAF-powered flights aim to cut approximately 250 kilograms of CO₂ per flight and reduce up to 80% of total emissions, contributing to a projected reduction of over 153,000 tonnes of CO₂ within six years.
Sustainable Travel Takes Flight
Under the “Fly Green” programme, VietJet Thailand is the first low-cost carrier in Thailand to integrate SAF into regular commercial flights. Produced from renewable and waste-based materials such as used cooking oil, agricultural residues, and biogas, SAF meets international ASTM D7566 standards, offering the same safety and efficiency as conventional Jet A-1 fuel.
Mr. Woranate Laprabang, CEO of VietJet Thailand, emphasized the airline’s focus on balancing business growth with environmental responsibility. “This collaboration shows how the aviation and energy sectors can work together to accelerate a greener, more sustainable future for air travel,” he said.
Thailand’s abundant bio-based resources and circular economy infrastructure position the country as a potential leader in SAF production, supporting both national and regional carbon-reduction goals.
A Boost for Vietnam–Thailand Travel
Vietnam remains one of Thailand’s key short-haul markets, with over 600,000 Vietnamese visitors expected this year. The Bangkok–Phu Quoc route is expected to attract both leisure and wellness travelers seeking sustainable travel options. Phu Quoc, with its pristine beaches and vibrant culture, is increasingly popular among eco-conscious travelers from across Asia.
The Green Route initiative also reflects growing trends among expats and regional travelers who prioritize responsible travel. By offering SAF-powered flights, VietJet allows passengers to actively participate in reducing their carbon footprint while exploring Thailand and Vietnam.
Thailand continues to champion sustainable tourism through public–private partnerships, encouraging greener practices across hotels, airlines, and destinations. Initiatives such as the Thailand Tourism Awards, CF-Hotels, and the Sustainable Tourism Acceleration Rating (STAR) reinforce the country’s position as a trusted destination for responsible travelers.
