Wear Appropriate Footwear

The first and most important tip for taking care of your feet is to wear appropriate footwear. Choose shoes that fit well and provide adequate support for your feet.

Avoid shoes that are too tight or loose, as they can cause blisters and other foot problems. If you plan to be outdoors, wear shoes designed for the activity you’ll be doing, such as hiking shoes for a hike or water shoes for a day at the beach.

Keep Your Feet Clean and Dry

Keep cracked heals at bay

Summer can be a breeding ground for bacteria and fungi, which thrive in warm, moist environments. Keep your feet clean and dry to prevent infections like the athlete’s foot.

Wash your feet daily with soap and water, and dry them thoroughly, especially between your toes. Avoid wearing sweaty socks and shoes for prolonged periods. Remember to change your socks during the day if your feet get particularly sweaty.

Exfoliate Your Feet Regularly

Exfoliate your feet to remove dead skin cells

Exfoliating your feet can help remove dead skin cells and prevent calluses from forming. It also helps with de-tanning the sun tan.

You can use a pumice stone or foot file to gently rub away rough patches of skin, focusing on areas like the heels and balls of your feet. Be careful not to overdo it, though, as excessive exfoliation can damage your skin.

Try this easy and effective coffee scrub for your feet.

  • 1 tsp coffee
  • ½ tsp sugar
  • 2 tsp coconut oil

Mix all these ingredients in a small bowl and apply them to your feet. Leave it for 15 minutes and rest easy. Rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry. Apply moisturiser after exfoliation for smooth and supple feet.

Here is an easy tomato scrub to remove tan.

  • One tomato
  • 2 tsp rice flour

Cut the tomato into two halves. Sprinkle rice flour on the cut side of the tomato and apply it on your feet. Scrub gently for 5 minutes and leave it for 5 mins. Rinse with cold water and pat it dry.

Moisturise Your Feet

Keeping your feet moisturised is essential for foot care, especially in the summer when your skin is exposed to the sun and other elements. Use a moisturising lotion or foot cream to keep your skin soft and supple, and apply it after exfoliating or after a bath or shower.

Applying coconut oil, olive oil, shea butter-based lotions are particularly effective. Pay particular attention to areas that tend to get dry.

Stretch Your Feet and Toes

Stretching your feet and toes can help prevent cramps and other foot problems caused by overuse or lack of movement.

Simple exercises like rolling a tennis ball under your foot or pulling your toes back towards your shin can help improve circulation and reduce muscle tension.

Trim Your Toenails

Keep your toenails trimmed

Trimming your toenails regularly is an important part of foot care, as long nails can be prone to breaking or tearing.

Use a clean, sharp toenail clipper to trim your nails straight across, avoiding rounding the corners, which can lead to ingrown toenails.

And remember, if you’re experiencing persistent foot problems, don’t hesitate to seek the help of a podiatrist.

Treat Yourself to Foot Spa

Give your foot a spa at regular intervals

Cracked heels are a nightmare, but you can keep them at bay with proper care. If you are prone to dry heels, give your foot a spa at regular intervals. Try this foot spa at home to cure mild cracks.

You will need the following:

  • 1 lemon
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tbsp Epsom salt or regular salt
  • 1 tbsp shampoo

Instructions:

  1. Take a pan, add 4 cups of water, squeeze lemon, lemon peel and boil it.
  2. Put the mixture in a bucket, add more water, and make it half a bucket. Add baking soda, salt and shampoo and mix.
  3. Soak your feet for 15 mins and relax.
  4. Take your feet out and wash them with cold water. Pat them dry and apply moisturiser.

Our feet are as significant as our faces. Nourishing, caring, and pampering them is very important for our overall well-being.
