Boris Johnson – Birthday Party

Boris Johnson could not catch a break. While waiting for the results of senior civil servant Sue Grey’s report, another allegation has surfaced. It is alleged that No. 10 Downing street held a birthday party for the PM while the country is on lockdown. This party took place in June 2020.

A spokesperson for the PM said “a group of staff working in No 10 that day gathered briefly in the Cabinet Room after a meeting to wish the Prime Minister a happy birthday. He was there for less than ten minutes.”

According to some reports, there was not just one but two parties. The first is attended by as many as 30 people. It was held at the cabinet office on the afternoon of June 19. The second one was during the evening, it was hosted at Johnson’s residence and attended by family friends.

Downing Street denies the allegation that COVID rules were not followed. “This is totally untrue. In line with the rules at the time, the Prime Minister hosted a small number of family members outside that evening.” However, rules at that time said indoor gatherings were not allowed, with people permitted only to meet outside in groups of up to six people.

Boris Johnson saw his approval rate fall in the past few weeks following the release of multiple allegations. Many have shared their anger and resentment as at that time, many were not allowed to gather. Funerals were also restricted at that time including that of the Royal Family. On the eve of Prince Philip’s funeral, No. 10 Downing street held a party while the Queen sat alone.

The PM in his numerous apologies cited that he believed that these are work-related events.
