Tensions on the West Bank have increased again after Israel’s attack on Hamas. 5 Palestinian civilians have been killed in an Israeli military attack on the Gaza Strip.
A 16-year-old Palestinian civilian was also killed in this attack. Two Israeli soldiers have also been injured in a violent clash between Israel and Hamas. Israel carried out this attack to capture the armed fighters of the Palestinian organization Hamas. Israel claims that this attack has been done on a terrorist organization operating in the West Bank. It was not intended to harm ordinary Palestinian civilians.
In a strong reaction to the Israeli attack, Hamas has said that they will definitely take revenge for the death of Palestinian civilians from Israel. Hamsa spokesman Fawzi Barhoum said the attack sends a message to the people of the West Bank and Jerusalem to fight the Israeli army with weapons and avenge the martyrs’ martyrdom with blood. We will defend the West Bank with our blood and weapons.
This dispute between Israel and Palestine over the West Bank is not of today but years old and due to this enmity, a bloody war is going on between them for a long time. Israel occupied the West Bank in the 1967 Middle East war. After the occupation, Israel has built many settlements in this area, in which 5 lakh people live. These Israeli settlements in the West Bank are illegal under international law. Israel claims that the area belongs to their ancestors on religious grounds. Whereas Palestine considers the West Bank as part of its state. Palestine claims East Jerusalem, including the West Bank, while Israel is not ready to give up its claim on Jerusalem.
The expert opinion about this ongoing dispute regarding the West Bank is that it is a dispute which cannot be settled in court. In this matter till now the decisions taken under international law could not establish peace, so there is only one solution to this dispute and that is dialogue. After Israel’s attack on Palestine and Hamas’s threat in response to this attack, there is speculation that tensions in the West Bank may increase in the coming days.
