The central government has banned new registrations for the vaccinations of healthcare and frontline workers with immediate effect. The government has issued instructions to all states and union territories for this. The Central Government had received complaints that in the name of healthcare and frontline workers, some people are getting registered for the vaccine, which do not come in its criterion. The Center has taken this step, calling it a violation of the Vaccination Guidelines. In a letter to states and union territories, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan has said that registration of people 45 years or older will continue on the CoWIN portal. He informed that first the registration of health care workers was to be closed on 25 February and that of the frontline workers on 6 March. This was discussed with state representatives and experts at a meeting of the National Expert Group (NEGVAC), which is looking after the work of vaccine administration. In this, the group has recommended the closure of new registrations.
