INDIA COVID Cases Update as of February 21, 2022

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in India has reported a slight decrease in COVID cases since yesterday. As of February 21, 2022 (8:00 IST), there has been a total of 16,816 new cases reported across India.

Kerala has reported 5,427 at this time. Maharashtra registered 1,437 cases, and Karnataka stands at 1,001 cases at this time. Today’s number is slightly lower than yesterday’s and below the 200,000 mark that was previously reported.

This is the fourteenth day that the cases have fallen below 100,000. Despite the decrease in cases, public precaution is still advised. Social distancing, vaccination, and wearing masks is still recommended.

With schools, offices, and local authorities lifting COVID measures, India is looking forward to being back in the green zone. The global situation is also seeing a decline in cases. Many are beginning to implement a “living with COVID” condition.

Many experts continue to advise not to take it lightly. The World Health Organization recommends a “slow and steady” approach to reopening. With many countries depending on tourism as part of their economy, they have been lifting restrictions.

The ability of the virus to mutate is the most concerning issue. If the virus happens to mutate into a contagious and deadlier counterpart. As of this moment, the BA.2 subvariant of Omicron appears to be dominant. This particular subvariant is more contagious but less fatal. However, researchers continue to monitor its mutation.
