INDIA COVID Cases Update as of February 5, 2022

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in India has reported a decrease in COVID cases since yesterday. As of February 5, 2022 (8:00 IST), there has been a total of 127,903 new cases reported across India.

Kerala has reported 38,648 cases followed by Karnataka registering 14,950 cases, and Maharashtra stands at 13,840 cases at this time. Today’s number is lower than yesterday’s and below the 200,000 mark that was previously reported.

This is the sixth day that the cases have fallen below 200,000. Despite the decline in cases, public precaution is still advised. Social Distancing, vaccination, and wearing masks is still recommended.

Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Dr. Samiran Panda said the current wave should begin declining by March. “The peak of cases encountered in these states will come down to the base level by the end of this month itself. An overall decline in Covid cases in the country is expected by March,” he said.

Epidemiologist Dr. Chandrakant Lahariya stated, “With Omicron dominating 90% of the cases and Delta being only about 10%, the rise, and fall in cases being witnessed is a trend across the world”.

Medical experts predict that if there are no new variants that will appear, the cases will be under control. This would mark the shift from the pandemic stage to an endemic.

Most of the states registering high cases are beginning to show a significant decline in their positivity rate. This is a sign that the cases have already peaked and are beginning to recede.
