INDIA COVID Cases Update as of February 6, 2022

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in India has reported a decrease in COVID cases since yesterday. As of February 6, 2022 (8:00 IST), there has been a total of 105, 752 new cases reported across India.

Kerala has reported 33,538 cases followed by Karnataka registering 12,009 cases, and Maharashtra stands at 11,394 cases at this time. Today’s number is lower than yesterday’s and below the 200,000 mark that was previously reported.

This is the seventh day that the cases have fallen below 200,000. Despite the decline in cases, public precaution is still advised. Social Distancing, vaccination, and wearing masks is still recommended.

Head of India’s COVID task force, Dr. VK Paul said “We are seeing the pandemic situation has improved”. “There are states and districts of concern, but overall there is a contraction in the spread of infection, which is heartening,” he added.

While health officials see a decline in cases, last Friday saw the death count surpass 500,000. Experts added that the actual death toll could be higher. This is because some deaths are not reported. Kerala for example reported a backlog of 18,000 deaths testing positive.

In light of the decreasing number of cases, Delhi announced that they will be relaxing some measures. Beginning February 7, schools, colleges, gyms, and spas may reopen with some restrictions. Offices can reopen at full capacity. As well as citywide night curfew has been shortened by an hour.
