The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in India has reported an increase in COVID cases since yesterday. As of January 6, 2022 (8:00 IST), there has been a total of 90,793 new cases reported across India.
Mumbai has reported 15,014 cases, Maharashtra registered 26,538 cases, and Bengal stands at 14,022 cases at this time. This is the first time that the cases increased by 50% for two consecutive days.
Delhi is the latest province to announce its lockdown measures. The Delhi local government announced a “yellow” alert prompting the closure of schools, cinemas, and gyms. Non-essential businesses are allowed to open based on the odd-even formula from 10:00 am until 8:00 pm. Restaurants and bars are allowed to operate at 50% of their total capacity. Restaurants may open at 8:00 am and close at 10 pm. Bars are advised to open from 12:00 noon until 10:00 pm.
Covid Cases in India continue to rise as the holidays have prompted interstate movement and many fear that this wave could reach a peak in the next few weeks.
