India, US Renew Global Development Deal for 5 Years

India and the US on Friday expanded the provisions of an existing agreement under which allies are helped to jointly build capacity in various areas such as connectivity, trade and investment, healthcare and agriculture. The Ministry of External Affairs said that the two sides signed the second amendment to the Statement of Guiding Principles (SGP) on Triangular Cooperation for Global Development. The SGP agreement was signed in November 2014 and the new amendment has extended the validity of the agreement till 2026.

The Ministry of External Affairs said, “India and the US are primarily focused on agriculture, regional connectivity, trade and investment, nutrition, health, clean and renewable energy, women’s empowerment, disaster preparedness, water, sanitation, education and institution building.” While doing so, we will continue to provide capacity building assistance to partner countries in a number of areas.

The second amendment expands the scope of capacity building activities jointly undertaken by India and the US and also provides a consultative mechanism for twice a year monitoring and review of activities undertaken under the SGP, the statement said. Is.

The US embassy said that the SGP agreement underscores the contribution made by the India-US partnership to global stability and prosperity. It provides a framework for promoting cooperation between the two countries, particularly to meet the development needs of the partner countries in Asia and Africa.

The amendment was signed by Abhilasha Joshi, Joint Secretary, Development Partnership Administration-II Division in the Ministry of External Affairs, and Karen Klimowski, Acting Mission Director of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in India.
