Maha Songkran World Water Festival 2024

The countdown has begun for one of the most anticipated events of the year, the Maha Songkran World Water Festival 2024. Organized by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Interior, and the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), this extravaganza promises to be a celebration like no other, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Thailand to the world.

Held from April 11th to April 15th, along the vibrant Ratchadamnoen Klang Avenue and at the iconic Sanam Luang in Bangkok, this festival is set to dazzle visitors with its grandeur. The highlight of the event is the Maha Songkran Parade, scheduled for April 11th, featuring over 20 grand processions and more than 1,000 performers, marching from the Phan Fa Lilat Bridge to Sanam Luang.

Culture Minister, Mr. Sermsak Pongpanit, expressed his pride in supporting the Songkran celebrations across various locations, emphasizing its UNESCO ‘Intangible Cultural Heritage’ status. The Department of Cultural Promotion has appointed Miss Antonia Porsild, Miss Universe 2023 first runner-up, as Mahodhara Devi, the Nang Songkran goddess of 2024, adding a touch of elegance to the festivities.

Tourism and Sports Minister, Ms. Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol, highlighted the government’s commitment to promoting Thai soft power through festivals like Songkran. The Maha Songkran Parade, with its cultural showcases and traditional performances, aims to cement Songkran’s position as one of the top 10 global festivals.

TAT Governor, Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, announced that the event would be broadcast globally, reaching audiences through prominent channels like CNN, BBC, and iQIYI. International celebrities and influencers will be invited to experience Songkran in Thailand, inspiring their followers to explore the wonders of the country.

Deputy Minister of Interior, Mr. Kriang Kantinan, assured strict enforcement of safety measures to ensure a seamless experience for visitors. Additionally, initiatives like the GCYOU Turn activity for plastic waste management reflect the festival’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

The Maha Songkran World Water Festival 2024 promises an unforgettable experience for visitors, with cultural performances, traditional rituals, and exciting activities for all ages.
