Approximately 3,000 migrants and refugees combined have exhausted the whole month to set up camp within Libya’s capital Tripoli City, outside a community center administered by the United Nations.
A lot of these migrants and refugees are longing for help as they had previously escaped from overcrowded detention centers, in which during one of these escapes last month six migrants were left dead as guards opened fire on them.
According to one of the refugees, he doesn’t know if she will either live or die due to the situation she and the other of her companions are in as guards had been directly shooting at them. at the same time living in the community center is also dangerous as they could also end up dead.
“We have gathered here in front of the UNHCR office needing help but until today there had been no response, no food, no medical assistance, not even water to drink.” says Salahuddin Juma, one of the refugees while being interviewed by the BBC.
Libya is the central departure point for Sub-saharan African migrants and refugees hoping to escape to travel across the Mediterranean Sea to Europe.
In relation to this, prior to the escape of thousands of refugees last month more than 5,000 people were detained in the crackdown by the country’s authorities.
