Prime Minister Narendra Modi of the Republic of India had vowed to reduce the country’s emissions to become net-zero by 2070, disregarding a major target of the United Nations Climate Change Conference also known as COP26 for countries to devote themselves to reaching the goal by 2050.
PM Modi had put together the net-zero aim pledge during the Glasgow summit, which is the first time that India has placed a net-zero target
Net Zero is the balance between the amount of greenhouse gas produced and the amount removed from the atmosphere.
Relatively, the European Union and the United States had previously set a goal to reach net-zero by 2050 while China has announced the same intention only by 2060.
The PM of India is one of over 120 leaders to have congregated in Glasgow City, Scotland for the two-week conference. and dozens of these leaders had made speeches on Monday, (November 1, 2021), setting out objectives to fight the climate crisis.
