After Corona in Kerala, now the threat of Nipah virus is looming. The administration has been alerted after the Nipah virus death of a 12-year-old child in Mavoor, some distance from Kozhikode. For this, the local authorities have started preparations to prevent its spread in the city and nearby areas.
In view of any possibility of spreading the virus, a special Nipah ward has been started in Kozhikode. The hospital said that a decision on further plans would be taken after the proposed meeting with ministers and health experts.
At the same time, a total of 188 such people have been identified through contact tracing who came in contact with the dead child. Of these, 20 have been admitted to the hospital considering them as high risk. Symptoms of Nipah have been found in two of them. At the same time, 168 have been isolated at home.
Symptoms of Nipah virus have been found in twenty people who have been admitted to the hospital. Kerala Health Minister Veena George said that both are health workers. One of them works in a private hospital while the other is an employee of Kozhikode Medical College cum Hospital.
In Kozhikode district, a 12-year-old child died this morning due to Nipah virus infection. He was confirmed to be infected with this virus in a sample sent to the National Institute of Virology. The minister said that three kilometers radius of the child’s house has been declared as a containment zone. At the same time, the areas adjoining it are also under strict surveillance.
George said the state has asked the Pune NIV officials to make arrangements for testing facilities at the Kozhikode hospital. The team of NIV will come here and do the necessary work. If the infection is confirmed in the patient in the initial test, the sample will be sent to the NIV for reconfirmation and that result will be made available within 12 hours.
