Zydus Cadila’s Covid vaccine for people above 18 years of age in the country will start being supplied to the government in December. The government has placed an initial order for one crore vaccine doses of Zydus Cadila.
Zydus Cadila’s Covid vaccine Zycov-D will be administered only to adults. The Ministry of Health has approved the inclusion of indigenous and needleless vaccine in the vaccination campaign. The government had asked the company to prepare for it. The ministry has already placed a purchase order for one crore doses of this vaccine to the Ahmedabad-based company.
Zycov-D, which India’s drug regulator has approved to be administered to people aged 12 years and above, will be administered to adults only as part of the national anti-Covid vaccination campaign. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said that the government does not want to rush to vaccinate children with anti-Covid vaccine and any decision in this regard will be taken only on the basis of expert opinion.
Mandaviya said that the Covid-19 vaccine is not being administered on a large scale to children anywhere in the world. Although limited immunization of children has been introduced in some countries, Zycov-D is the first anti-Covid vaccine approved by the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) for people 12 years of age and older.
