Prime Minister Narendra Modi has greeted the countrymen on the auspicious occasion of Guru Purnima. Today PM Modi also addressed in the Ashadh Purnima-Dhammachakra Day program. PM Modi said, ‘Wishing you all a very Happy Dhammachakra Enforcement Day and Ashadha Purnima. Today we also celebrate Guru-Purnima and on this day Lord Buddha gave his first knowledge to the world after attaining Buddhahood.
PM Modi said, ‘Today humanity is facing the same crisis in the form of corona epidemic when Lord Buddha becomes even more relevant for us. How can we face the biggest challenge by following the path of Buddha, India has shown this. Today the countries of the world are also holding each other’s hand for the right thought of Buddha, they are becoming each other’s strength.
PM Modi said, ‘In Sarnath, Lord Buddha told us the formula of whole life, of complete knowledge. He told about sorrow, told about the cause of sorrow, assured that sorrow can be conquered and also told the way to this victory.
President Kovind greeted all the teachers on the occasion of Ashadh Purnima. President Kovind said that Buddha has given the message of living with morality and moderation in all aspects of life. Universal compassion and non-violence are reflected in his message, during which President Ram Nath Kovind planted a sapling of the sacred Bodhi tree at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Union Ministers G Krishna Reddy and Meenakshi Lekhi were also present on the occasion.
The full moon of the month of Ashadh is called Guru Purnima. On this day lakhs of devotees circumambulate the Govardhan mountain. Bengali monks do circumambulation with their heads shaved. In Braj it is called ‘Mudiya Poon’. Guru is worshiped on this day. This festival is celebrated with great reverence all over India. Although there have been many scholars named ‘Vyas’, but Rishi Vyas, who was the first lecturer of the four Vedas, is worshiped on this day.
