With the increase in winter in Delhi, now pollution has also started increasing. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had recently appealed to restart the ‘Red Light On, Car Off’ campaign in the capital to check pollution. In view of this, today the MLAs of Delhi will take to the streets for awareness on the ‘Red Light On, Car Off’ campaign.
Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai has said that to give further impetus to the ‘Red Light On, Car Off’ campaign, all the MLAs of Delhi will gather at Chandgi Ram Akhara crossroads to encourage people to reduce vehicular pollution. Will make aware about Rai said in a statement that public participation is the key to the success of any government initiative and if two crore people of Delhi contribute responsibly, vehicular pollution can be reduced by 15 to 20 percent. Rai said, “On October 21 (Thursday), all the MLAs of Delhi will spread awareness about the ‘Red Light On, Car Off’ campaign near Chandgi Ram Akhara on Ring Road. He will appeal to the public to contribute to the campaign. I request the people of Delhi to strengthen our fight against pollution.”
The Delhi government on Monday launched the ‘Red Light On, Gaadi Off’ initiative to reduce vehicular emissions, in which the engine of the car is switched off when there is a red signal. This campaign will run for a month till November 18. 2500 civil defense volunteers will be deployed for the campaign in two shifts from 8 am to 2 pm and 2 pm to 8 pm at 100 traffic intersections in the city.
The Environment Minister of Delhi said that the fight against pollution can be won only when both the government and the society fight together. He said that the objective of this campaign is to reduce the fuel consumption of vehicles stopping at intersections. Rai said in a statement, “I give a call to two crore people of Delhi. This entire campaign is on your shoulders. We are confident that the way we are campaigning against dust pollution in Delhi, we will get success in this campaign as well.
