Tanna portrays the character’s transformation from a confident and successful journalist to a vulnerable and traumatized prisoner with remarkable authenticity and nuance.

The Inspiration Behind Scoop

It is inspired by the book Behind Bars in Byculla by Jigna Vora, a journalist who was falsely accused of conspiring with gangster Chota Rajan in the murder of another journalist J Dey in 2011.

The series also boasts a strong supporting cast, especially Mohd. Zeeshan Ayyub as Imran Siddiqui, Jagruti’s colleague and friend who tries to prove her innocence. We also have Harman Baweja as JCP Shroff, a corrupt cop who frames Jagruti for murder. And Tannishtha Chatterjee as Leena Pradhan, the editor of a rival newspaper. The actors bring depth and complexity to their roles, making the viewers empathize with their motives and dilemmas.

Mehta’s Thought-Provoking Direction

Hansal Mehta’s direction is commendable, as he creates a realistic and gritty atmosphere that captures the essence of Mumbai and its underbelly. He also handles the sensitive and controversial subject matter with care and honesty without sensationalizing or trivializing it.

Mehta raises pertinent questions about the role and responsibility of media, the flaws and biases of the legal system, and the impact of false accusations on individuals and society.

Scoop is a thrilling and engaging web series and that sheds light on the plight of innocent people. It is an important commentary on people who are wrongfully convicted and imprisoned. A must-watch for anyone who loves quality content combining entertainment and education.
