In the holy land of Thailand, the continuous form of faith in Sanatan Dharma is visible. Recently, a Thai-origin couple, Mr. Puttipong Pookpiboon and Mrs. Nareerat Rawangbaan performed their 24th wedding anniversary at Durga Nagadevi Temple (Pathumathani) Thailand according to Hindu customs, rituals, and culture.
It is with immense pride and happiness for the Indian public that belief in Sanatan Dharma is flowing continuously all over the world and by dipping in this Basudha form of Gangotri, the global public can feel proud of themselves continuously.
This astonishing foundation of India and Thailand’s friendship and ties didn’t start recently. The countries have been linked to each other for centuries. There are a lot of visible similarities between their religious practices, customs, traditions, deity worship, the architecture of palaces and temples (wats), in the arts, sculpture, dance, drama, and literature. This is because India has a really huge influence on Thailand.
For example, a substantial number of words in Thai are borrowed from India’s classical language Sanskrit. Pali, which was the language of Magadha and is the medium of Theravada, is another important root of Thai vocabulary. Buddhism, the major religion of Thailand, originates from India. The Hindu story of Ramayana is also well known throughout Thailand in the name Ramakien. Loy Krathong and Songkran are inspired by the two major Indian festivals Deepavali and Holi. And the 800-year-old connection between the Tai people and Ahoms of North East India has served as an enduring link. A large Indian diaspora living and working in Thailand is also an important growing bond.
Indian Embassy in Thailand is located in Bangkok and has one consulate in Chiang Mai while the Thai Embassy in India is in New Delhi, with three consulates in Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai.
Indo Thai News Co. Ltd would like to send our warmest wishes to the wonderful two of you on your 24th anniversary.
