Thailand COVID Cases January 7, 2022 Update

Thailand Ministry of Health reports 7,526 new COVID-19 cases and an additional 19 deaths since yesterday. The ministry also announced an additional 2,895 recovered patients.

The Public Health Ministry raised the alert level from 3 to 4 after two consecutive days of high cases. Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health Minister will present the proposal to CCSA. The curbs include the banning of alcohol along with mandatory quarantine to all returnees. This is to prevent any outbreak of the omicron virus.

The ban on alcohol consumption has been identified as one of the risk factors, especially among the high-risk areas. Many COVID clusters in Thailand have sprung from events and gatherings that involved alcohol.

Tightening the quarantine system would greatly prevent the entry of any imported variants. This however might affect the tourism industry who still trying to recover.

The public is still encouraged to continue vaccination, observe social distancing, wear masks, and sanitize their hands as often as possible. These are simple steps that can strongly help prevent the spread of the virus.
