The Department of Disease Control (DDC) is seeking to achieve its inoculation goal of providing the first coronavirus disease 2019 jab to at the minimum of 50% of the total population of Thailand by the end of October and hopes to supply 1 million doses of the vaccines in one day this month.
According to Director-General Opas Karnkawinpong of the DDC, people have already learned to co-exist with the pandemic and they have been observing the Ministry of Public Health’s (MOPH) general viral disease prevention guidelines which include the wearing of face masks, washing of the hands, and practicing social distancing while in crowded places.
Starting from February 28 until September 16 this year, approximately 43.3 million shots of the Covid-19 vaccines had been provided to people of which 28.4 million were the initial doses and about 14.3 were the second doses.
Director-General Opas had stated that the government can supply vaccines at a rate of 900,000 doses a day and added that they wish to reach their target for half of the country’s population to obtain their first jab of the vaccines by October.
Mr. Opas had also revealed that on September 24, paying to heed an important public health event, the government plans to give out one million doses of the Covid-19 vaccines to the Thai public.
