Thai Government has decided to extend the Emergency Decree nationwide for two more months until 31 January, 2022.
Thai Prime Minister, General Prayut Chan-o-cha signed the announcement on the fifteenth consecutive extension of the state of emergency for two more months after it expired . The two-month extension takes effect from 1 December, 2021 – 31 January, 2022.
The announcement said the COVID-19 situation in Thailand has gradually improved following the ongoing vaccination programme. At the same time, the government has continued to place emphasis on strengthening the public health system, while gradually reopening the country to revive the economy.
However, it cited the current spread of the new coronavirus Omicron variant, coupled with the anticipated high volume of people on the move for the upcoming New Year holidays, as well as illegal border crossings as reasons to maintain the state of emergency to allow authorities to continue the efforts on disease surveillance and investigation for the health and safety of everyone in the country.
