Thailand Foundation Promotes Cultural Ties with Bharatanatyam Workshop

In a bid to foster cultural exchange and strengthen ties between Thailand and India, the Thailand Foundation, in collaboration with the Bunditpatanasilpa Institute, recently organized a special Bharatanatyam performance and workshop. The event, held on November 21, 2023, featured Apeksha Niranjan, an accomplished Bharatanatyam artist from Maharashtra, India.

Bharatanatyam, a traditional Indian classical dance form with roots in Tamil Nadu, took center stage during the session. The audience, comprised of enthusiastic performing arts students from the Bunditpatanasilpa Institute’s Faculty of Music and Drama, had the unique opportunity to delve into the rich cultural heritage of India.

The workshop, designed to be an immersive experience, allowed students to learn the intricate movements of Bharatanatyam and explore techniques for expressing emotions through choreography. Originating from ancient sources such as the Natya-shastra, Bharatanatyam is deeply intertwined with Hinduism, offering a unique window into India’s cultural tapestry.

The Thailand Foundation, a nonprofit organization established by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is committed to promoting goodwill and friendship between Thailand and the international community. Their initiatives, spanning various sectors, include fostering cultural exchange and understanding.

By facilitating events like the Bharatanatyam workshop, the foundation aims to create a platform for people from different backgrounds to connect, appreciate each other’s cultures, and build lasting friendships. Such initiatives contribute to the broader goal of global harmony and understanding.
