The War in Ukraine

The war in Ukraine is a historic event that will be in the history books that could reshape the 21st century. Nearly two months of fighting has pushed politicians to sanction Russia.

“Throughout our history, we’ve learned that when dictators do not pay the price for their aggression, they cause more chaos and engage in more aggression,” Biden said. “They keep moving. And the costs, the threats to America and the world, keep rising. We can’t let this happen.”

Among the developments the world is focusing on is if NATO will join the war. Many called for the expansion of US and Western military aid to guard against Russian expansionism. Some are calling for the arming of nations in the Western Balkans and non-NATO states Georgia and Moldova.

Nuclear

Meanwhile, nuclear talks continue to raise concerns as Russia is known to be the country with the largest nuclear arsenal. They have also been open to the fact that they are ready to use it if they are threatened. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov acknowledged “the danger is real and we must not underestimate it.”

Genocide

Another news that shocked the world is the alleged genocide in the cities of Bucha and Mariupol. Hundreds of bodies were found buried in mass graves on top of the bodies strewn all over the streets. The steel plant where civilians and armies were sheltering in Mariupol has been surrounded for days. It has been bombarded with heavy fire with Ukrainian soldiers vowing to fight till the last.

Political

Politically, the war has shown the broken relations between the east and the west. The two largest economies of Asia, India, and China choose to continue relations with Russia and refuse to sanction. This shows the independence of the east with the west having little to no influence.
