Situated at an altitude of 2010 meters above sea level, Chaukori is a picturesque hill station located in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, India. Known for its incredible views of the Himalayan peaks and serene atmosphere, it is an excellent destination for tourists seeking to escape the city’s hustle and bustle.

  • The town is also surrounded by several trekking and rock-climbing routes, making it a popular destination for adventure enthusiasts. Pindari Glacier trek is the most prominent and astonishing trek of the Himalayas! Other trekking routes range from easy to moderate and are suitable for both experienced and beginners.
  • Chaukori is also known for its apple orchards and tea gardens, which are open to visitors. You can stroll through the orchards and gardens and learn about the process of growing and harvesting tea and apples.
  • The town is also home to some temples and monasteries worth visiting for their serene atmosphere. You can plan a day trip to the nearby town of Bageshwer, also known for its green surroundings and scenic beauty.
  • You can also check out Patal Bhuvaneshwar, located about 40 kilometres from Chaukori. It is a majestic limestone cave temple about 160 metres long and 90 feet deep from the point of entrance. Geology enthusiasts will find it particularly appealing.
  • Chaukori also offers some fantastic dawn and sunset views.

The nearest airport to Chaukori is Pantnagar airport, and the nearest railway station is Kathgodam railway station. One can hire a taxi or take a bus to reach Chaukori.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Chaukori is between March and June and September to November, when the weather is pleasant and the views of the Himalayas are clear. During the monsoon season, the area can be pretty treacherous, and it is best to avoid travel.
