WHO Named New Variant Found in South Africa as ‘Omicron’

An advisory committee of the World Health Organization (WHO) has named the new type of corona virus (New Corona variant B.1.1.529) that appeared for the first time in South Africa as ‘Omicron’. Has termed the new corona variant as a ‘very rapidly spreading worrying variant’.

Earlier, the delta variant of the corona virus was also placed in the category of ‘very rapidly spreading worry variants’, which had spread worldwide and a large number of people were victims of it. It spread faster than the first variant and made people sick faster. The same is being said about the new variant ‘Omicron’.

A meeting of WHO’s Technical Advisory Group on Virus Evolution (TAG-VE) was convened, in which the new variant B.1.1.529 and its behavior were discussed. After the meeting, a WHO spokesman said that the initial study has shown that the new variant has a very high number of mutants.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus tweeted, “The new COVID19 virus variant ‘Omicron’ has a large number of mutations, some of which are of concern. This is why we need to deliver #VaccinEquity as quickly as possible and the most vulnerable everywhere.” There is a need to intensify our efforts to protect the people.”

Let us tell you that this new variant of Corona was first found in South Africa, which has increased the concerns of the world. Many countries have imposed travel restrictions on South Africa to avoid this. America and Canada are also included in such countries. Apart from these, many countries have also done this.
