Embassy to Evacuate Thais in Ukraine

Ukraine embassy vowed to evacuate Thais living in Ukraine should the situation get worse. Chargé d’Affaires Pavlo Orel said during an interview.

“I know that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand has got some kind of plan in case of further deterioration of the [Russia-Ukraine situation],” he said. “[In this regard], the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine is ready and has been in contact with the Thai embassy in Warsaw, Poland, which is responsible for Thai people in Ukraine.”

“Our government is in contact with them in case there are any Thai nationals needing assistance, and we will provide [them] with assistance,” Mr. Orel said.

Thailand’s Foreign Ministry announced that the embassy in Poland has laid out a plan on how to evacuate Thais living in Ukraine. If the Russian invasion takes place, they have a plan to keep these citizens safe. Ministry spokesperson Tanee Sangrat announced their concern for 230 Thais living in Ukraine.

They have set up a LINE group chat to keep communications open as well as to announce updates. They have also secured conversations with the governments of Ukraine and Poland to assist if the attacks begin. A warning has also been issued to avoid traveling to Ukraine until the situation has been fixed.

The current plan is to use the western city of Lviv as a waypoint into Poland. This is according to the Thai ambassador in Poland, Chetthaphan Maksamphan.
