In the summer season, people like to eat mangoes. Although there are many species of mango, but one of its species makes mango very special and expensive than other mangoes. In fact, it is cultivated in the Kathiwada area of Alirajpur district adjoining the Gujarat border, about 250 km from Indore in Madhya Pradesh. At the same time, local people claim that Nur Jahan is of common Afghan origin. A farmer named Shivraj Singh Jadhav told that the price of Noorjahan mango is coming out in better yield and bigger size this time as compared to last year. Noorjahan mangoes range from Rs 500 to Rs 1,000 in this season.
He also said that there are 250 mangoes planted in three Noor Jahan mango trees in his orchard, whose price has been kept between ₹ 500 to ₹ 1,000 per piece and bookings have already been done for these mangoes. Also told that people who have already booked Noor Jahan mangoes include people from Gujarat besides Madhya Pradesh.
Noor Jahan mango is born in early June. At the same time, its tree starts flowering in January-February. Local farmers claim that a Nur Jahan mango can grow up to a foot tall and its kernels weigh between 150 and 200 grams. It is believed that this time the weight of a mango of Noor Jahan can be between 2 kg to 3.5 kg.
Mango cultivation expert Ishaq Mansoori said that this time the crop of this variety has been good, but the Covid-19 pandemic has affected the business. He said that due to unfavorable climatic conditions in the year 2020, Nur Jahan trees could not grow properly. Whereas in the year 2019, the weight of a mango of this variety was around 2.75 kg and buyers paid up to Rs 1,200 for it.
