Thailand COVID-19 Cases January 28, 2022 Update

Thailand Ministry of Health reports 8,450 new COVID-19 cases and an additional 28 deaths since yesterday. The ministry also announced an additional 7,484 recovered patients.

The cases continue to fluctuate as today shows a slight increase from yesterday’s cases. The vaccination drive continues as more people are scheduled for their booster shots.

The Test and Go package along with the extended sandbox scheme are hoping to turn the markets around. As many as 5 million tourists are expected to visit the country. Tourism is among the largest economic source in the country. Two years of COVID pandemic has pushed markets to depend upon domestic consumers.

The reopening sparks concerns that the virus may evolve. This view is shared around the globe as COVID measures begin to relax. The current wave of cases is mostly due to the omicron variant. Omicron is very contagious but not as deadly as the previous variants. This could be because of the vaccinations that the population has received.

The future of many industries depends on how quickly a new variant will emerge. They will also be dependent on how fast governments around the world will respond.
