Thailand COVID-19 Cases January 29, 2022 Update

Thailand Ministry of Health reports 8,618 new COVID-19 cases and an additional 19 deaths since yesterday. The ministry also announced an additional 8,358 recovered patients.

Test and go is expected to resume on February 1, 2022, Tuesday. This is just in time for the Lunar New Year celebrations. About 450,000 tourists are expected to arrive in Thailand for the holiday.

Airport General Manager, Kittipong Kittikachorn said that the majority of the flights would be domestic passengers. The international flights comprised only 115,931 out of the 450,000 expected arrivals.

Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana, the government’s spokesperson expressed their confidence in the test and go program. He said that the measures and processes in place ensure that they are prepared for the holiday events. This will greatly help the tourism industry bounce back after it has been battered for two years.

Both the test and go and the expansion of the sandbox program are expected to stimulate the tourism economy. With the continuous threat of the omicron variant across the globe, measures were added. Instead of just one RT-PCR test, tourists will need 2 tests. Also, the quarantine period is extended to 7 days as opposed to the original 1 day.
