Thailand Ministry of Health reports 8,444 new COVID-19 cases and an additional 12 deaths since yesterday. The ministry also announced an additional 7,829 recovered patients.
Cases remain to be steady on the 6000-8000 mark and most cases appear to be minor. This suggests that even if the omicron variant appears to be contagious, the symptoms are manageable. Basic COVID safety measures are still recommended. This includes frequent washing of hands, earing masks, and social distancing.
The lunar new year is expected to provide a breathing space for tourism. The reopening of the Test and Go scheme along with the expanded sandbox is about to resume. Many business operators are waiting for this opportunity for quite some time.
There are no current updates on the curbs in terms of curfews or serving alcohol at this time. Even if the tourism industry is reopening, the government is also cautious in terms of the pandemic.
Cases continue to rise across the world as curbs begin to ease up. WHO still advises everyone to remain vigilant and to keep up with vaccinations. They have warned that this might not be over yet. Their greatest concern remains to be the ability of the virus to mutate over time.
