Maha Ganga Aarti in Thailand — A Tribute to Hindu Samaj’s 100-Year Legacy

Bangkok, Thailand – As part of its grand 100th Year Anniversary, Hindu Samaj – Shri Dev Mandir made history by hosting Thailand’s first-ever Ganga Aarti Ceremony on June 5, 2025, at the Royal Thai Navy Hall, adjacent to the iconic Wat Arun.

Indian-Thai community members, local Thais, Indians, spiritual seekers, dignitaries, and cultural enthusiasts from across Bangkok and beyond gathered to witness the ceremony, marking a transcendent moment in the city’s cultural and religious landscape.

The centerpiece of the evening was the Ganga Aarti, an ancient Hindu ritual traditionally performed on the banks of the Ganges River in Varanasi. Nine Brahmin priests from India conducted the ceremony with precision and reverence, chanting Sanskrit mantras and offering light to the divine through sweeping motions of multi-tiered oil lamps. The ritual honored not just tradition, but also the unbroken thread of spiritual connection across borders.

The setting couldn’t have been more symbolic. Wat Arun—one of Thailand’s most iconic Buddhist landmarks—served as a powerful backdrop, reinforcing the event’s message of interfaith respect and cultural harmony. As the sun set behind the Chao Phraya River, the reflections of glowing flames and echoed chants created a moment of timeless serenity.

Attendees described the ceremony as “a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” with many visibly moved by the spiritual power of the Aarti and the cultural bridge it built between India and Thailand.

This Ganga Aarti was the highlight of Hindu Samaj’s centenary celebrations, a testament to the temple’s 100 years of service to the Thai-Indian community. Since 1925, the temple has stood as a cultural anchor in Bangkok, nurturing generations through festivals, education, and spiritual guidance.
