Starting November 1, 2025, Bangkok commuters will see a small change in BTS Green Line fares. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has confirmed that the maximum fare for the Green Line, including its extensions, will be 65 baht — a modest 3-baht increase from the current rate.
Why the Fare Is Changing
The fare update applies to the three Green Line extensions:
-
Mo Chit–Khu Khot
-
Bang Chak–Samut Prakan
-
Pho Nimit–Bang Wa
These routes currently operate on a flat fare of 15 baht, regardless of distance. From November, the system will move to a distance-based fare starting at 17 baht and capped at 45 baht within the extension areas. For passengers traveling across both the main and extended sections, the total fare will not exceed 65 baht.
According to Deputy Governor Wisanu Subsompon, the adjustment is necessary to keep the city’s mass transit system financially sustainable. The Green Line extensions currently cost the city over 6 billion baht per year to maintain, while generating only about 2.4 billion baht in revenue.
Still Affordable by Global Standards
Even with the new rates, Bangkok’s train fares remain among the most affordable compared to major cities around the world. The new pricing is designed to reflect actual service costs while supporting the long-term operation of the BTS network.
“The goal is to maintain reliable, efficient, and sustainable transport for Bangkok residents,” Wisanu explained.
Discounts for Students and Seniors
To make daily travel easier for vulnerable groups, the BMA will offer fare discounts:
-
Students (up to age 23): 30% discount
-
Seniors (60 and above): 50% discount
Commuters who travel only on the main BTS line will not see any fare changes. Those using only the extension lines will notice an increase of 2 to 30 baht, depending on their route.
Keeping Bangkok Moving
The BMA emphasized that the fare change will be implemented carefully, with a focus on maintaining safety, comfort, and convenience for all passengers. The agency also assured that it will continue to improve accessibility and expand sustainable public transport options across the city.
